Benin coach Reinhard Fabisch has cast controversy over the Africa Cup of Nations by alleging he was asked to influence the result of his side's opening match on Monday.

Benin lost the match 1-0, but Fabisch claims to have rejected the approaches of a man who entered the team's hotel two days previously; "I told him, "You have two minutes to leave the hotel or I will call the police."

The allegations cast a shadow over an otherwise enjoyable and open tournament and Fabisch has warned his players to tell him if they have been approached with a view to affecting the result of Benin's matches.

On the pitch, hosts Ghana stumbled unimpressively to a 1-0 win over Namibia, who were thrashed 5-1 on Monday by Morocco. Nottingham Forest's Junior Agogo scrambled the ball home from close range after forty minutes from Quincy Owusu-Abeyie's cross from the right flank.

Namibia created chances in the second half and might have embarrassed the hosts had Brian Brendell - scorer of their consolation goal against Morocco - shown more composure and ruthlessness in front of goal.

Ghana's midfielder Laryea Kingston will be suspended for their crucial final group game against Morocco after picking up a ludicrous yellow card for taking a free-kick before the referee's whistle, but the pedestrian nature of their performance will worry coach Claude le Roy the most. The home team created few chances, with Asamoah Gyan wasting a rare opportunity on 34 minutes, missing an open goal.

Ghana need a point against Morocco to win the group but will be eliminated if they lose and Guinea beat Namibia by two goals or more.

That is because Guinea held on to a 3-2 win over the north Africans despite suffering the first red card of the tournament. Star man Pascal Feindouno, who scored an audacious free-kick in the first half and a penalty in the second, was sent off for kicking out at Amin Erbati shortly after putting his side 3-1 up.

Ismaël Bangoura added to Feindouno's free-kick goal shortly before the hour with a low left-foot shot past Khalid Fouhami but Morocco cancelled the goal out almost instantly with a spectacular angled strike from long range by Hicham Aboucherouane.

Ghana re-instated their two goal lead three minutes later when Mickaël Chrétien appeared to pull down Souleymane Youla just outside the Moroccan area but a penalty was awarded which Feindouno duly converted.

Morocco piled the pressure on in the late stages as Guinea's ten men dropped deeper in defence but they could only muster a stoppage time headed goal from former Fulham defender Abdeslam Ouaddou, leaving them needing a win over the host nation to guarantee a place in the quarter finals.
